about leslie...
I am compelled to create from my mind's wanderings and visions. My goal is to expose the extraordinarily surreal in the everyday nitty-gritty details of our lives, and share it with a dose of humor, movement, and wonder.
I draw inspiration from everything, be it my own milestones or large political issues, a feeling in the wind or an earthquake, the enchanting musings of a poet or a thick entomology textbook. I soak up everything, and filter it through my mind, heart, and body, until it comes through, remade, on paper. Though trained (BFA, JMU 1996) in design, technique, color, composition, etc., what comes out of my hand and brush is 80% free form. A newcomer to NC, I spent the past twelve years in Charlottesville, VA, showing in local galleries and markets, and providing commissions and pieces to clients worldwide. For more information, please feel free to peruse my portfolio, or contact me with any thoughts or questions. ...... Contact me for a formal portfolio/resume. |
about the details...I paint with Sennelier watercolors and archival black ink, on 140 lb hot press watercolor paper. All framing is done in my studio, with archival boards, adhesives, and UV protective glass. My framing style is simple white matting and thin black metal frames, to bring out the lines in the paintings.
Oils and acrylics are on canvas or masonite, as noted. Typically the images are continued to the sides of the canvas so that framing is not necessary, or can be done simply. In addition to original paintings, I also make prints of most of my work, notecards, magnets, and pendants. In the late months of the year, I also make calendars. Everything is made at home, with my hands and/or my computer. See my store for examples. Special orders are welcome! Commissioned ideas, portraits, logos, album covers, tattoos, etc are also welcome! See the "Custom" page or contact me and we'll come up with something fantastic!
