The Nitty Gritty on Special Orders
Thank you for your interest in a one of a kind painting!
Below are some general guidelines to show you how it all works. You do not need to figure this all out before contacting me - I can help with details or suggestions if you need them! Most of all, I want to hear your ideas! Here are some things to consider for getting started:
Medium: Think about whether you'd like a watercolor, oil, or acrylic.
-Watercolors are whimsical, illustrative, and are relatively quick. They come professionally framed with a white mat and black metal frame. The painting is smaller than the frame size to allow for the mat margins.
-Oils/Acrylics are rich and deep in color and texture. Oils take a long time to dry, acrylics are faster. Oils and acrylics
come ready to hang on canvas or board, and do not require framing (I can offer framing ideas if you need them).
- Size: Think about how big you envision your piece. Pricing is based on size, as well as number of subjects or faces.
- Bigger paintings give a lot more impact. Smaller paintings tend to feel more intimate.
- The more subjects/faces, the bigger the painting will need to be.
- For multiple subjects, consider multiple small paintings.
- Many of my paintings are squares, but any size is fine!
- Budget: Think about your ideal price range. Below are some APPROXIMATE ideas by size, as a general guide. (based on one subject/face). Additional faces/subjects add to the price.

SHIPPING/HANDLING - Approximately 12% additional for USPS Priority Mail, with insurance. (expedited is also available). If you send me your zip code I can figure out the cost more precisely.
Timing: Let me know how soon you need it. Typically I require about 3-4 weeks plus shipping time. Oils may take one-three months (acrylics suffice in a rush). I can usually put a project on "priority" if need be, so don't hesitate to ask!
Deposit: I request a 25% deposit to secure the project and any materials I may need. The rest is payable on completion.
*** If your deadline is in two weeks or less, including shipping time, I request full payment in advance.
Payment: I prefer Paypal, and can send you an invoice once everything is agreed upon. In special circumstances I may accept a check, so let me know if that is preferred.
The Fun Stuff: Send me photos, personalities, colors, shapes, symbolism, meaningful insights, etc.. I like to know a little bit of history and personality about the subjects, especially if I have never met them. Even if little details are not in the paintings per se, it helps me get into the piece and capture an 'essence.' Once we get started I will ask questions about it.
The first thing to do: Send me an email and let me know what you're hoping for. Tell me your idea, and whatever price, size, medium, and time frame you have in mind, and we can go from there! Don't worry if you don't have it all figured out - I can help!

Some reactions from past projects...
"I can't even begin to describe how impressed I am with your work. It's probably even better than anything I had envisioned could come out of this! A is ecstatic, and even the kids think it's great! Thank you so much for doing this, it really has ended up being something quite perfect." "S loved the painting and so did I. It's adorable. I think he will write to you himself. I don't know how you do it but you always get it just right." "I added a little extra as a token of my appreciation for such a wonderful piece. I know S is going to love it, Leslie, you definitely captured their expressions amazingly. Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of our precious treasures." "It takes a lot to make C speechless but that was exactly what she was Christmas morning. I can't express how much she loves your painting… and I can't express how grateful I am. You have a pure joy, whimsy and reflectiveness that comes out in all of your artwork and these are the same qualities I love about C. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!" "These five custom pieces you made for me are PHENOMENAL. Seriously, just awesome!!! I can't even pick a favorite. The recipients will absolutely love them. You always capture my vision perfectly and each picture shows how creative and masterful you are with lines, shapes, colors, and the melding of all of those together to create such a cohesive, beautiful piece of art. For instance, when I see a palm frond, I see a monochromatic, flat and relatively boring object. You make it look interesting and beautiful. A palm frond." |
